Athens Beekeepers are preparing their bee hives

Building Honey Bee HIve

The Athens Class of 2012 was in good form this past Saturday.  Building  their beehives, frames and gathering all their tools and beekeeping supplies.

Bill and Lisa Douglas of Hedgerow Farm, Watkinsville are such wonderful hosts! When I arrived at 8am on Saturday the woodstove was already blazing. The place was downright cozy. Snacks, coffee and drinks were waiting. Cora Keber from the Botanical Garden greeted everyone with a tag and a smile.  And then the volunteers arrived. Dean Fenley, Keith Flaute, Pete Holt, Christian Hoadley and Frank Broadrick. Without this group of fine people the workshop would not have run so smoothly. Thank you all.

Beekeeping Class Georgia

We are really excited to see so many new beekeepers this year. Visit our Photo Gallery to see all the photo’s we took during this hive building workshop.

Now the beekeepers will paint and set their beehives up ready to receive their honey bee Nucs just as soon as they are ready.  By-the-way if you have not already ordered your honey bee nucs now is the time to make sure you are on our list.  E-mail Dan@BoogerHillBee.com

New 16.75″ Tall Rolled Beeswax Candle

Posted on by admin

We have created a beautiful, tall pure rolled beeswax candle that stands 16.75” tall x 1.75” wide. It is an elegant focal point to a floral table center peace. It may also be used as a Unity Candle together with our “Classic” rolled taper set.Our hand rolled beeswax candles are made of 100% pure beeswax.  The sheets of beeswax that we use are intended as foundation for beehive frames, however as rolled candles these sheets become absolutely beautiful candles that we can all enjoy.

Each candle is hand rolled and we only use 100% cotton wicks.

When our candles burn the golden halo cleans the air by emitting balanced negative ions.

For Best Results

-    Keep burning candles sheltered from drafts

-    Before re-lighting your candle ensure the wick is trimmed back to about ¼ inch

-    Always use a candle snuffer to extinguish your candle flame

NEVER leave any candle burning unattended

We would like to say a special thank you to Marietta Flower Shopfor supplying the gorgeous flower arrangement which so beautifully displays our new candle.

Achieving my best weight, shape and health with the help of Honey Vinegar

Posted on by admin

Dan and I will be married in May of this year.  An exciting time for us – even though we are both well past a half century in age – we intend to share our next half century.  In that spirit, our wedding is a BIG deal for us and we are having as much fun with it as possible.

As the Bride to be – like all Brides – I want to look and feel my best – especially on our wedding day.  At 55 years of age I must admit to carrying a few extra pounds that I would like to shed, my eyes are not quite a bright as they were thirty years ago, and although I have been blessed with good skin, it too could do with a perk up.

Fortunately, as we have been researching and developing our Honey Vinegar I have learned a lot. And so, I have decided that between now and our wedding to lose those pounds, perk up my energy levels and be in the best shape possible.

At the moment (that is today January 10, 2012) I weigh 135 pounds and stand 5’ 2” tall.  I generally cook from scratch and my diet is overall healthy.  But, I do love my fats, cooking with olive oil and butter and one of my great weaknesses is bacon!  I have read that raw unprocessed vinegar helps to break down fats and helps to restore acidity levels. For example Dr  D. C. Jarvis, M.D. was a great advocate for benefits of taking a tablespoon of Cider Vinegar and a tablespoon of Honey each day .

If Dr. Jarvis was onto something then surely our Honey Vinegar that contains the acidic properties of vinegar and fine curative powers honey in one product it should produce the same or even better results.  The basic idea is that a person’s blood stream tends toward becoming alkaline through a modern diet of fats, starches and low energy processed foods. The acidity of vinegar, although weak, is enough to correct this excess alkalinity, and that a slightly acidic bloodstream prevents and fights infection, increases energy and even facilitates weight loss.   A quick Google search will produce pages of articles related to health benefits of Honey and Vinegar – check it out for yourself.

So, join me on a grand experiment!  From today I will be taking a tablespoon of Booger Hill Bee Company Honey Vinegar each morning – first thing in the morning.  Each week I will report my weight, observations about my energy levels, skin, eyes and general sense of health.  My goal it to be in the best possible state of health by my wedding day in Mid-May.

By-the-way we have created a Facebook Page especially for Honey Vinegar – Please “Like” our Page and join the conversation there.

Honey Vinegar

Happy New Year!  As with the start of every New Year, Dan and I have a boat load of good resolutions. Most revolve around health.  On our list is walking at least four times a week, sleeping more, drinking less and eating better!  I suspect this might be pretty standard fare for many people.  We however have the added incentive of having our wedding coming up in May this year – and for two old codgers we want to look and feel our very best for that!  So I have high hopes that we will stick to it and follow through.

Then we also have the excitement of our new products – Honey Vinegar being the one that we are most excited about.  It has taken Dan almost a year to perfect the brewing of this special pure unprocessed honey vinegar.  It is a tricky business – but the end result is very good indeed.  What we are calling our “Original” Honey Vinegar is now available in 5oz bottles and it is in steady but limited production.

We will expand our line of this artisan honey vinegar with a few interesting flavor twists this year.  Exploring blueberry, strawberry and some other heavenly flavors.  Our imaginations and taste buds have an exciting year ahead.  I hope you will join us on this adventure.

Happy New Year
